Overview

Student Health Services (SHS) at California State University, Bakersfield is seeking a Health Education Program Assistant to support the development and delivery of health education programs and outreach activities. The role involves creating and maintaining educational materials, coordinating events, managing supplies, and providing administrative support. The position also assists with workshops, program evaluation, and collaboration with campus and community partners to enhance student engagement.

By promoting evidence-based health initiatives, the Health Education Program Assistant helps students build lifelong wellness skills that support their academic and personal success.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Health Education & Specialty Initiatives Support – Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion initiatives focused on nutrition, stress management, mindfulness, sexual health, and overall well-being; assist in developing and facilitating workshops, presentations, and outreach events that engage students through interactive activities and discussions; create, maintain, and review health education materials, displays, and online content to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and inclusivity;

    partner with campus and community organizations to coordinate events, campaigns, and demonstrations that promote healthy behaviors; identify emerging student needs and assist in adapting programs based on evidence-based practices and assessment data; assist in conducting follow-up activities and documenting lessons learned for continuous improvement; develop and maintain a comprehensive resource guide of on-campus and off-campus wellness services.
  • Program Evaluation & Data Support – Assist in conducting surveys, focus groups, and needs assessments to identify student health needs and inform program evaluation; support data collection, entry, records maintenance and analysis for program evaluation and assessment of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs); compile and submit program data and reports for reporting and analysis; assist in planning SHS outreach activities including health fairs, orientations, workshops, and virtual programs;

    represent SHS at campus events to educate students about available health services and encourage participation; provide logistical and on-site support for outreach activities; collaborate with student organizations and campus partners to expand program reach; support program delivery across SHS focus areas including ATOD prevention, sexual health education, health equity and women’s & men’s health; participate in the Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) and attend trainings to stay current on college health education trends.
  • Administrative & Operational Support – Order, track, and maintain inventory of health education supplies and promotional items; maintain organized storage and tracking systems for materials and event supplies; compile materials for accreditation reviews and internal audits; prepare and reconcile Pro Card purchases and coordinate print shop requests; provide administrative support for meetings (agendas, minutes, notes); serve as back-up for wellness vending machine operations and website content updates.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – High school diploma or equivalent or combination of education and experience providing the required knowledge and abilities.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA’S) –

  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • General knowledge of data collection and dissemination of educational information to the public through various media.
  • Working knowledge of health education programming elements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver informational talks or lead group discussions; provide clear, understandable answers to questions from target audiences.
  • Ability to conduct interviews or group discussions to gather data on health habits and needs.
  • Ability to conduct research to develop educational materials.
  • Ability to draft simple staff reports for publication in newsletters and bulletins.
