Overview

Applicants may be placed in a part‑time, hourly faculty pool on a continuous basis and may be contacted immediately if a need arises. Applications remain active for up to two years.

Assignments may vary in teaching methodology, campus site, class time (day, evening, weekend), large or distance learning, and may include tutoring in the math lab.

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in a full range of Mathematics courses, including but not limited to Arithmetic, Pre Algebra, Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Trades Mathematics, Survey of Mathematics, Elementary Statistics, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Finite Mathematics, Business Calculus, Analytic Geometry, Calculus I, II, III, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra.
  • Participate in student recruitment and articulation activities for the Mathematics department.
  • Maintain subject‑matter currency and develop/revise curriculum.
  • Use computer and multimedia technology to enhance instruction.
  • Participate collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's in mathematics or applied mathematics.
  • Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in statistics, physics or mathematics education.
  • Or possession of a credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Mathematics at the California Community College level; or an equivalent credential.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students.
  • Degrees from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a NACES or ACEI service.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Work effectively with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning and service to a diverse student population.
  • Work with students of varied skill levels, motivations, and vocational goals.
  • Develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
  • Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain subject‑matter currency.
  • Assess student learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies.
  • Commitment to the California community college mission.
