QUALIFICATIONS- Command of the English language.
- Knowledge of pertinent academic areas and learning situations, general needs, and behaviors of students, and student recreational activities.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions independently.
- Ability to understand the needs of high school students and effectively relate to those needs in learning or recreational situations.
- Ability to learn the requirements of students in a specific learning program and adopt an effective course of action.
- Supervision of students in a variety of situations.
- Proficiency operating standard office equipment (typewriter, copy machine, tape recorders, projectors).
- Establishing and maintaining accurate classroom records and files.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
- Assist physically handicapped students with feeding and toileting needs, including lifting, garment handling, and cleansing.
- Supervise students to maintain an effective learning environment; note behavioral problems observed.
- Assist in organizing learning and instructional environments; set up materials for daily activities; maintain neat and orderly classroom/instructional areas.
- Administer and correct daily assignments, homework, and related tasks.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining informational and operational records and files; develop goals and objectives for each student according to curriculum and program requirements.
- Conference with teachers regarding students’ progress, program evaluation, and problem areas; assist in lesson plan development.
- Supervise students during lunch hours, travel, and recreation periods; assist in mobility training activities.
- Assist teachers in instructing students in basic academic subjects, vocational activities, self‑help, social integration, and other learning situations.
- Implement individualized instruction and create learning centers; research instructional programs for the specific needs of assigned areas.
- Prepare instructional materials for use in instructional activities; make copies and gather appropriate resource information and materials as designated by teacher(s).
- Provide teacher(s) and school administrators with relevant feedback and information on students’ progress through observation and daily contact including daily performance time studies and data collection.
- Escort students to and from transportation pick‑up/delivery place on campus; may assist teachers on field trips by helping students meet physical needs and providing supervision.
- Monitor loading/unloading of students on/off buses; perform related duties as required.
A pre‑placement medical assessment and a criminal history check will be required of the successful candidate prior to employment.
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATIONCompletion of the twelfth grade is required, preferably supplemented by college level courses.
CERTIFICATION OF PROFICIENCY- Diploma from a regionally accredited California high school after January 1 1981 (GED does not fulfill the proficiency requirement).
- Proof of successful completion of the CBEST test.
- Possession of a valid California teaching credential.
Assist a certified teacher(s) in the instruction, supervision, and training of individual or groups of students by performing a variety of instructional support and student care activities and to perform a variety of related duties in the maintenance of an effective learning environment.
PAYROLL INFORMATIONStarting salary: $2,648.05 monthly (nine months).
Hours:
7 daily (8:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.).
