Basic FunctionApplicants are invited to join the Kern Community College District part‑time, hourly faculty pool. The starting hourly rate is $67.00. Applications remain active for up to two years.
Representative Duties- Provide instruction in a full range of Political Science courses.
- May teach at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, and distance learning, and use multiple teaching methodologies.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Science department.
- Maintain subject‑matter currency.
- Develop and revise curriculum.
- Use computer and multimedia technology.
- Participate collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
- Master’s degree in Political Science, Government, or International Relations.
- OR bachelor’s degree in one of these fields and a Master’s in Economics, History, Public Administration, Social Science, Sociology, ethnic studies, JD, or LL.B.
- OR possession of a valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Political Science at the California Community College level.
- OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and accomplishments. Qualified candidates must submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form with supporting documents.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community‑college students.
- All degrees must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Foreign degrees require evaluation by an NACES or ACEI member.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
- Ability to work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
- Ability to develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
- Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain subject‑matter currency.
- Ability to assess student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
- Knowledge of, and commitment to, the California community‑college mission.
- Completed on‑line application form.
