Join the search for the Associate Dean for the College of Arts & Humanities at California State University, Bakersfield. This position is an Administrator III, full‑time, 12‑month pay plan, with anticipated monthly pay of $12,167 – $13,334, and benefits including medical, dental, vision, CalPERS, tuition waiver, up to 24 vacation days, sick leave, 15 paid holidays, and more.

Position PurposeThe Associate Dean supports academic planning, faculty affairs, student success, and resource management. Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean collaborates with department chairs, faculty, staff, and university leadership to advance the College’s mission and strategic goals across seven departments.
Academic Leadership & Strategic Planning- Assist in developing and implementing the College’s strategic plan, aligning with university goals.
- Coordinate scheduling in collaboration with department chairs and administrative staff.
- Support curriculum development as an ex‑officio member of the A&H curriculum committee.
- Lead initiatives to expand interdisciplinary collaborations within the College and across units.
- Provide guidance on emerging academic technologies.
- Assist in budget planning and resource allocation.
- Oversee faculty and staff workload assignments.
- Ensure compliance with university policies, CSU regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Advocate for increased resources for instructional facilities, technology infrastructure, and research.
- Coordinate space and facilities management within the College.
- Provide oversight and mentorship in faculty recruitment, ensuring diversity and excellence.
- Serve as an advisor for standards programs, ensuring transparency and compliance.
- Organize professional development workshops and research grant‑writing training.
- Assist faculty in resolving workplace conflicts.
- Support faculty in securing external funding and fellowships.
- Develop initiatives that promote inclusive excellence and equitable faculty advancement.
- Develop and oversee initiatives that promote student recruitment, retention, and timely graduation.
- Collaborate to create structured pathways for degree completion and academic support.
- Partner with Student Affairs Strategic and Enrollment Management.
- Facilitate consistent communication with academic departments.
- Serve as liaison between the College and Tutoring Services.
- Oversee resolution of student appeals, grievances, and academic integrity cases.
- Support experiential learning opportunities, including service‑learning and internships.
- Lead efforts to improve first‑year experience and bridge programs.
- Liaise between the College, university administration, and external stakeholders.
- Represent the College on university‑wide committees and professional organizations.
- Develop strategic partnerships with local organizations, cultural institutions, and industry.
- Promote the College’s visibility through outreach, public lectures, and initiatives.
- Work with alumni and donors to strengthen ties and foster philanthropy.
- Expand community‑based learning initiatives.
- Earned doctorate in a field appropriate to one of the College’s departments.
- Outstanding record of teaching, scholarship, and service equivalent to an Associate or Full professor with tenure.
- Minimum one year of prior leadership experience as an administrator, department chair, or equivalent.
- Management of fiscal and personnel resources.
- Knowledge of accreditation processes (AACSB, NASPAA).
- Experience working with faculty, administrators, and community partners.
- Commitment to student success and equity.
- Ability to build collegial relationships across constituencies.
- Proficiency in communication, organization, and confidentiality.
- Computer literacy and familiarity with university infrastructure.
- Willingness to travel and attend off‑site training.
