Summary Are you ready to step into a leadership role and take on greater responsibility in maintaining safety, security, and professional development within the facility? We are seeking dedicated and experienced candidates for the position of Correctional Sergeant. This is an excellent opportunity for career advancement while playing a crucial role in maintaining security, overseeing staff, and guiding AICs toward rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

As a Correctional Sergeant, you will be a senior security staff member responsible for overseeing custody, control, supervision, and daily care of adults in custody while upholding the mission of the Department. You will serve as a lead worker, ensuring facility operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. You will supervise AICs during movement assignments, monitor high-security areas, and conduct security operations such as transports, searches, and emergency response.

You will also play a key part in staff development, assisting in training and potentially mentoring subordinate staff as a Field Training Officer (FTO). You will lead by example, modeling professionalism, accountability, and behaviors that support rehabilitation efforts.

Affiliation and Benefits

This position is represented by American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience in a correctional security setting where your primary duties were the care and custody of AICs
  • Within two weeks, obtain an Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Correctional Certificate OR a Correctional Certificate from another government agency
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • United States Citizen

Education will not be accepted as a substitute for the required experience.

Special Qualifications

Ability to obtain a valid Oregon motor vehicle operator's license.
