Job Type: Full-time, Non-exempt
Work Hours: 12-hour shifts: 6PM-6AM for the Azusa location; 7 days in a two week period, including alternating weekends. Training hours over 2 week period: 12PM-8PM
Work Setting: In-person

The Surgical Recovery Technician (SRT) is responsible for the surgical recovery of donated human tissues used in transplantation.
Duties & Responsibilities Essential Job Functions Tissue Recovery- Performs the aseptic surgical recovery of tissues:
Ocular, Musculoskeletal, Skin, Cardiac, Vascular, Bone Marrow, and ensures that the recovery follows all applicable OL P&P. - Performs the qualification of donor for recovery by reviewing all relevant source documents such as but not limited to authorization from, medical social history questionnaire, medical chart, coroner documentation, investigation report, tissue referral summary, case comments, and processor recovery criteria.
- Preforms physical examination.
- Performs donor blood draw and plasma dilution assessment.
- Performs facility site assessment and prepares the site for recovery.
- Performs proper verification of all steps but not limited to recovery paperwork, packaging, labeling, and shipping.
- Performs labeling and labeling verification.
- Packages and ships tissue to processors.
- Assembles and ensures all pertinent documents remain in the donor chart following completion of the recovery.
- Communicates with the Family Care Center coordinator on shift and the Supervisor-on-Call (as appropriate) of any information that is discovered during medical chart review or physical examination that would alter the acceptance or rejection of the donor.
- Responds timely to chart corrections.
- Maintains donor information in a confidential manner by complying with HIPAA requirements and respects the donation process in a way that honors the gift of donation.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in compliance with One Legacy policies and procedures, the standards and regulations as outlined by the FDA, AATB, EBAA, CMS, UNOS, and other applicable federal, state and local laws.
- Assists with logistics and coordination of the transportation of donors to a One Legacy facility for recovery.
- Performs the receiving and releasing of donors in the One Legacy Recover Facility from partners such as but not limited to transport companies, coroner offices, or funeral homes.
- Aseptically sets up the OR (surgical recovery room) for the Organ Recovery and breaks down the OR Post-Recovery.
- Performs surgical prep and drape of the donor.
- Hands off instruments and supplies to surgeons during the organ recovery.
- Verifies the Authorization and organs to be recovered.
- Assists the surgeons as needed or directed.
- Assembles and ensures all pertinent documents remain in the donor chart following completion of the recovery.
- Documents the recovery process in the Electronic Medical Records system.
- Recovers organs or tissue for research according to researcher protocol.

- Performs facility cleaning and maintenance such as but not limited to cleaning, disinfecting, and mopping in the Supply Depot, Recovery OR, Morgue, Pre-Prep Staging room, tissue shipping/lab room, coroner office recovery suite, and other areas as needed.
