Job Type: Full-time, Exempt

Hours: Exempt employees shall be paid an established salary on a bi-weekly basis and are expected to fulfill the duties of their position regardless of hours worked. The work week for full-time exempt employees is normally considered to be 40 hours; however, greater emphasis is placed on meeting the responsibilities assigned to the position than on working a specified number of hours.

Exempt employees are not eligible to receive overtime compensation. Must be available evenings, holidays, and weekends as required. Call time varies by service area, fluctuations in donor activity, and staff turnover.

Salary Range: $121,934 - $174,872

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, One Legacy considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Work Setting: In-person and Field Service Area

Location: Employee may be assigned to a base office in Azusa, CA

Travel: Travel required by personal auto or air to meeting sites and other locations

Summary of Functions:

The Clinical Perfusionist is a specialized medical professional responsible for preserving and assessing donor organs for transplantation. The Clinical Perfusionist will perform both Thoracoabdominal Normothermic Regional Perfusion (TA-NRP) and Abdominal Normothermic Regional Perfusion (A-NRP). The Clinical Perfusionist will work in a high-performing organ recovery surgery team and must have a strong sense of collaboration, teamwork and excellence in organ recovery.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate and manage extracorporeal circulation systems.
  • Thorough understanding of cardiovascular and respiratory physiology, pharmacology, and sterile techniques.
  • Administer medications, blood products, and anesthetic agents via the extracorporeal circuit.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation in donor medical records.
  • Coordinate the care and recovery of DCD donors with transplant teams, hospital surgical teams, OPO staff and ICU teams.
  • Support patient resuscitation and emergency interventions as needed.
  • Maintain equipment logs and perform routine equipment checks.
  • Participating in education, quality assurance, and research activities.
  • Participate in post-case debriefings and quality improvement initiatives to refine NRP procedures and protocols.
  • Educate and Train advanced surgical coordinators in the practice of perfusionist for sole purpose of performing A-NRP.
  • Maintain inventory and ensure readiness of perfusion-related supplies and disposables and equipment.
  • Support hospital partners related to blood management and quality improvement.
  • Participate in monthly department meetings.
  • Train advanced surgical coordinators in the practice of perfusion on A-NRP donors.
  • Procedure Specific Perfusion Management

    T-NRP (thoracic and abdominal organs):

  • Collaborate with surgeons to establish a bypass circuit involving central cannulation of the right atrial appendage and ascending aorta.
  • Initiate warm, oxygenated perfusion to the thoracic and abdominal regions while ensuring cerebral protection through vessel occlusion.
  • Maintain and monitor all perfusion parameters, including blood pressure, flow rates, temperature, blood gas analysis, and electrolyte levels.
  • A-NRP (abdominal organs):

  • Assist with the cannulation of the iliac artery and vein or the abdominal aorta and inferior vena cava to establish abdominal-only perfusion.
  • Control the ECOS circuit to ensure optimal flow and oxygenation to the abdominal organs, such as the liver, kidneys, and pancreas.
