Pay and Hours

Our Customer Delivery Driver rate of pay starts from £13.35 an hour; this increases to £14.56 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location
.

It is our policy to offer new colleagues a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week. If you prefer to work fewer hours, a minimum of 12 hours is available.

The table that follows shows the periods of time in the week we would like you to be available to work – the availability windows. Your contracted hours will be scheduled within these times and you will receive three weeks' notice of your exact shifts. We support flexibility and welcome applications even if your availability does not match exactly.

About the Role

Customers are at the heart of everything we do. As the face of Tesco on the road, you will deliver from Lands' End to John O'Groats, meeting and talking to customers daily. This role is more than just driving – it is about helping others and delivering great service with a smile.

It is hands‑on, physical, and full of variety. No two shifts are ever the same. During most of the day you will feel like your own boss, delivering to customers while a team of managers and colleagues at base are ready to support you.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the van and trays are clean and tidy.
  • Leave the backyard clean, tidy, and clear of rubbish; pick up litter as you see it.
  • Wash trays as part of the tray wash process.
  • Load the van as required and inspect the van for roadworthiness.
  • Communicate with the customer about orders, substitutions, and refunds when necessary.
  • Treat products and deliveries as if they were your own.
  • Explain to the customer that they will not be charged extra for substitutions.
  • Deliver during the customer’s time slot.
  • Call the customer before arriving if early.
  • Call the store/centre if running 30 minutes or more late.
Requirements
  • Build relationships with colleagues to create team spirit and support the store’s performance.
  • Be warm and welcoming in interactions with customers and colleagues; take time to say thank you.
  • Respond quickly to changing customer needs and embrace change within the store.
  • Be energetic and driven to deliver beyond expectations, balancing home and work life.
  • Share ideas with your manager and colleagues on how to improve the store for customers.
  • Hold a valid UK/EU/EEA driving licence (Full or Automatic) for at least 12 months with no more than three penalty points.
  • Be over 18 years old; candidates under 18 may only be considered if the role does not involve early or late work shifts or specific areas such as the warehouse, beers, wines and spirits, counters, bakery, and driving roles.
