You’ll be at the core of Screwfix, making sure our customers are the heart of everything we do. You’ll take your time to really get to know them whilst delivering genuinely great service. Our Retail Assistants are vital to the running of a store, so you’ll always be kept busy. And with the help of our excellent training programmes and varied shift patterns to support a healthy work life balance, you’ll be on the right track for a promising career with us!
Availability needed for evenings and weekends.
Opening hours- Monday - Friday (7am to 8pm)
- Saturday (7am to 6pm)
- Sunday (9am to 4pm)
WHAT’S IT LIKE TO BE A RETAIL ASSISTANT?
- Host – you’ll welcome customers into your store, understand what they need, guide them to the right products, and make it super easy for them.
- Warehouse standards – you’ll assist with deliveries, maintaining product stock, collecting customer orders and keeping standards high.

Training programmes- First Steps to Management – 16‑week programme open to Service Assistants looking to step into management, leading to a Trade Counter Supervisor role.
- Power Up to Trade+ – 12‑15‑month programme that provides a Trade Supplier Apprenticeship at level 2 and prepares you for a Trade+ Sales Supervisor role.
- Trade Up to Branch Manager – over 15 months of structured learning and close supervision, culminating in a Level 4 Retail Manager Apprenticeship.
- Learning for Life – broader life skills learning, including Maths and English coaching, available to all colleagues.
Prior to your interview, we recommend a thorough read of our careers page and a visit to your local Trade Counter. Your interview will consist of competency‑based questions and a chat about your experience. Interviews may be held on the phone or via video chat, followed by a visit to store to meet the team.
Once we think we’re a good match, we’ll make you an official offer. After your acceptance and completion of pre‑employment checks, you’ll receive your contract.
