Position: Deputy Ward Manager - Ruby ward (Female MH In-Patient Ward)

Overview

Are you a Registered Mental Health Nurse, with experience in leading and managing a team, or an aspiring leader ready to take on leadership and management responsibilities and motivated by working with a supportive and dynamic team? Ruby Ward is a place for you. Ruby Ward is a 17 bedded acute ward for women with acute, severe or enduring mental illnesses, often with co-morbidities, requiring treatment that would not be possible in the community.

You will become part of a dynamic team for female patients requiring assessment, care and nursing interventions, within a fast paced, dynamic environment with high engagement. We have strengthened nurse leadership and offer clear and exciting nursing pathways with training and development to support aspirations, alongside a range of pathways to choose from. You will have access to training at Masters level.

Responsibilities
  • Provide effective leadership and, where applicable, lead and manage a nursing team.
  • Support service users and guide staff in planning care, monitoring risk and developing safe systems of working.
  • Contribute to a trauma informed approach to care planning and help teach the team and students to recognise the person in their care and manage distress in a humane, least restrictive way.
  • Demonstrate a range of skills including crisis management, discharge planning and coordination, staff supervision and appraisals, and rota management.
  • Communicate with integrity, empathy, self-awareness, compassion and perform critical self-reflection.
  • Apply knowledge of the Mental Health Act and the frameworks, policies and procedures governing the service.
  • Participate in induction and ongoing development; contribute to a positive, supportive working environment.
Qualifications and

Essential Criteria
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with experience leading or managing a team, or an aspiring leader willing to take on leadership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership, crisis management and communication skills; ability to work in a fast-paced, high-engagement environment.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and related frameworks, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to contribute to discharge planning, risk monitoring and safe working practices.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed care and person-centered approaches.
  • Flexibility in working patterns and openness to training and development opportunities (including Masters-level training).
Induction, Training and Development
  • All new starters receive a thorough induction process, local and Trust-wide, to support onboarding and role development.
  • Mandatory and statutory training related to the role is required.
  • Option to engage in ongoing learning and development, with pathways to pursue Masters-level training.
