Section engineer

Position: Section engineer (Contract)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Section Engineer to join an HS2 scheme on a minimum 6-8 month contract. The successful candidate will take responsibility for overseeing sections of earthworks and drainage packages on a major infrastructure project, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme and quality standards. Previous HS2 experience is highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

Managing and supervising site engineers and subcontractors across designated sections of work

Overseeing setting out, earthworks, and drainage activities to ensure accuracy and compliance with design

Coordinating daily site operations to ensure works are delivered safely and to programme

Managing quality assurance processes, inspections, and ensuring accurate site documentation

Reviewing drawings, specifications, and ITPs to ensure works meet technical standards

Liaising with site management, commercial, and design teams to resolve technical and delivery issues

Driving and maintaining high health & safety standards across site operations
Essential Requirements

Proven experience as a Section Engineer on major highways or HS2 infrastructure projects

Strong background delivering earthworks and drainage packages

SMSTS or SSSTS

Valid CSCS card

Experience managing engineers, subcontractors, and QA/ITP documentation
