General Purpose

The Retail Associate ensures customers have a positive shopping experience. This includes greeting customers with eye contact and a smile, treating colleagues with respect, following company best‑practice standards, maintaining a clean work area, and ensuring proper merchandise presentation. Associates are expected to work in all store areas as needed and may be requested to perform additional tasks to support customer service and operational goals.

Functions
  • Safety is the number one priority: practice safe behaviors and maintain a clutter‑free sales floor.
  • Respect and courtesy toward customers and associates at all times.
  • Assist customers, including register‑training, merchandise assistance, and knowledgeable responses to questions.
  • Respond promptly to customer service calls and handle issues courteously, calling leadership when necessary.
  • Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
  • Perform cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters, repurchasing restroom supplies, disinfecting high‑touch areas).
  • Maintain professional appearance and adhere to the company dress code.
  • Execute daily sizing and recovery to keep the store neatly merchandised.
  • Expedite merchandise receipts to the sales floor, following presentation guidelines and department familiarity.
  • Understand Loss Prevention and merchandise protection standards.
  • Demonstrate integrity, safeguarding confidential information and store assets.
  • Follow all Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock policies and cash handling procedures with accuracy.
  • Show urgency and maximize productivity by executing best practices and minimizing workflow steps.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative, and pleasant manner.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements / ADA
  • Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.
  • Stand, walk, and move around the store 100% of working time.
  • Bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.
  • Occasionally push, pull, or lift more than 25 pounds.
  • Operate janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other supplies.
  • Additional qualifications may apply for certain assignments.
  • Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling, or lifting more than 20 pounds.
