Position: Assistant Principal with Avondale Elementary School District

Assistant Principal

Must be a strong instructional leader and an effective communicator in promoting and supporting the school's vision of educational excellence for all students. Collaborating with the principal to assist in creating a climate of high standards in the school through establishing a safe and effective teaching/learning environment. Assist in the operation of an efficient, well cared for school facility. Be actively involved in the community, supporting the school.

Qualifications
  • Valid Arizona Department of Education teaching certificate.
  • Valid Arizona Principal and/or Administrative Certificate
  • Master's Degree
  • Three years experience as a teacher or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • Three years of successful school leadership experience (preferred)
  • Five years of successful classroom teaching experience (preferred)
  • Must possess a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance card
  • Must be able to pass a background check upon employment
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Participate in the school leadership team and, in that capacity, support the team in analyzing student data, developing a school academic plan, monitoring cluster group operations, and fostering inter-rater reliability.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the overall school curriculum and quality instructional practices.
  • In collaboration with the school leadership team, create a school assessment plan that includes formalized benchmarking and fosters teachers' use of ongoing formative assessments.
  • Create a climate of high standards in the school, characterized by a tone of respect for students, staff, parents, and community.
  • Support the development of a professional learning community environment and approach focused on continuous improvement for all.
  • Communicate effectively and actively work towards accomplishing the goals of the school and district.
  • Provide a safe, productive, and positive teaching/learning environment for students, staff, parents, and community.
  • Ensure overall student academic growth is taking place through assessment, evaluation, planning, and teaching.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of an Avondale School Improvement Plan annually that is aligned with the TAP school achievement plan.
  • Participate fully in TAP professional development at the regional, district, and school level as scheduled.
  • Complete TAP Evaluations including:
    Pre-conference, Observation, Post-conference with Reinforcement/Refinement Plan, follow-up, and support.
  • Participate in the monitoring of the teacher evaluation data management system to identify trends in teacher evaluation scores and maintain inter-rater reliability.
  • Support the needs in teacher professional development and school curriculum, and gathers resources and solutions to address these needs in collaboration with the Director of Academic Services.
  • Participate in staff meetings to encourage staff participation with open and respectful dialogue.
  • Implement a student/parent handbook that explains students' rights and responsibilities monitoring compliance with all school and District policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a consistent and fair school discipline program with a positive focus.
  • Deals effectively and professionally with controversial issues and critical situations in collaboration with the Principal, Superintendent, and/or Assistant Superintendent.
  • Support the operation of an efficient, well cared for school facility.
  • Support the principal in monitoring and actively participating (or ensure there is a LEA representative) at all Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings as well as ensuring that accurate Special Education records are maintained for complete compliance.
  • Support the principal in monitoring and ensuring compliance for all federal and state regulations and requirements, such as but not limited to English language learners, state testing, student attendance (ADM), Title programs, etc.
  • Develop in collaboration with the principal, a master schedule for the school's programs, assuring equitable and efficient scheduling and placement of students, staff, and facilities.
  • Assist in the development and identification of a variety of meaningful ways in which parents and the community can be involved with the school.
  • Collaborate with the principal to effectively communicate with all stakeholders regarding the TAP initiative, student progress and the operations of the school, to include but not limited to, website, newsletters, marquees.
  • Follow all District policies, procedures, and directives in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Perform all other tasks as may be assigned.
