SalaryWith Infant/Toddler CDA – $20.00 / hour
With Technical Certificate – $21.00 / hour
With AA in ECE - $23.00 / hour
With BS in ECE - $25.00/ hour
With MA -$27.00/hour
This is a non-exempt position.
Work ScheduleMonday - Friday, 7:30 am-3:30 pm. This position works 240 days per year, 7.5 hours per day.

LocationThis position will be assigned to one of the City s Head Start centers:
Avondale (Chattanooga), Cedar Hill (Chattanooga), James A Henry (Chattanooga), or Daisy Head Start (Soddy Daisy), but may be required to work another location depending upon program needs.
Chattanooga Head Start is a grant-funded program, and is subject to reapplication every 5 years. The Early Head Start Teacher will provide effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions, plan and implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessments, and promote children’s progress across the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework:
Ages Birth to Five and applicable state early learning and development standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate.
- Participate in Agency training events, center staff meetings, and other training events as required.
- Implement curricula in the classroom with fidelity.
- Work with knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, State of Tennessee Child Care Licensing Rules and Regulations, and Agency policies and procedures.
- Plan and implement learning experiences that promote all developmental areas, including readiness for school, literacy, phonemic awareness, print, numeric awareness, and language (including English as a second language if applicable).
- Guide and facilitate activities of the children, including daily activities and arranging equipment and materials.
- Eat with and assist children in the development of social and self-help skills and sound nutritional practices.
- Guide children’s acquisition of social skills.
- Work with the co-Teacher and/or Aides to develop and carry out classroom activities.
- Cooperate with other staff to maintain the smooth functioning of the center and adapt as needed to meet the needs of the children.
- Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment, including proper maintenance, cleaning, and storage of equipment, furniture, and supplies.
- Use the playground as an extension of the classroom and ensure playground safety.
- Complete the daily health and environment checklist.
- Assist in implementing, individualizing, and monitoring children’s IEP/IFSP, documenting progress and seeking clarification as needed.
- Provide clear behavioral expectations and use effective methods to prevent and redirect misbehavior.
- Submit required forms and records timely and accurately.
- Assist in transitions and communicate with families about classroom activities, parent meetings, and events; encourage parent participation.
- Participate in the development and implementation of the Professional Development Plan and performance review.
- Ensure documentation and files are complete, accurate, and confidential.
- Must meet regular attendance requirements and maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff and the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child & Family Studies preferred
- High School Diploma with a CDA or equivalent certification is required
