Education: A high school education or equivalent is required. Advanced training is preferred.
Certification: Must be willing to maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License with a P&S Endorsement and an Indiana State School Bus Committee Standard Certificate (Yellow Card) within 1 year.
Experience: None required but office experience is preferred.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent communication skills and computer knowledge. Good knowledge of the city road systems and neighborhoods; thorough knowledge of agency programs and policies; strong analytical and organizational skills; ability to prepare and maintain detailed records; ability to work independently and under stress making time sensitive decisions; strong oral communication skills; ability to operate a variety of office equipment; skill in the use of data and word processing equipment;
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, others; ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Other: Ability to maintain a positive relationship with pupils, staff, parents, and the community.Ensure that all bus routes are covered by securing substitutes when regular drivers and aides are absent and rerouting other drivers when accidents or breakdowns occur.Secure substitutes for absence drivers and aides.Maintain and monitor two radio systems for the purposes of dispatching divers and communicating with the garage, supervisors, and administration.Assign busses to substitute drivers.Know and operate the Synovia system for GPS, bus replacement, time, and attendance, ETC.Maintain a daily log of bus operations, and activities including breakdowns, and calls to police, parents, schools, and administration.Locate responsible parties to receive special needs and Kindergarten students when parents or guardians are not available.Make general announcements to leads drivers, route drivers and aides.Check and review a variety of data for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to established standards and procedures.Collect and prepare data for records and reports.Maintain computerized records and generate appropriate reports.Operate standard office, computers, synovia (GPS), word processing and data processing equipment.Assist in answering office phones, working with parents and school stuff.Perform related work as required.Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.Transfer messages and questions to appropriate personnel, if necessary.Make copies as needed to support Drivers and AIDES.Process bus conduct reports for student discipline and enter for reporting purposes.Maintain strictest confidentiality of information.Process and monitor all transportation staff forms and department correspondence including pre-trip inspections.Assist trip coordinator with the trip schedule and process extra-curricular completed requests for reimbursement purposes.Process tree trim/road condition reports, stop arm violations.Assist with summer school bus routing.Serve as substitute driver/aide as needed.Prepare transportation handbooks for transportation staff.Be an example of exemplary adult behavior for students.Project a genuine care and concern for all students.Comply with all Avon Community School Corporation policies, guidelines, procedures, and protocols.

Primary Job Functions
:The primary function of a Dispatcher is to serve as dispatcher for the Transportation Department.
A genuine care and concern for all staff and students should be projected, while being an example of exemplary adult behavior for students and other employees. This will be pivotal in maintaining good relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
Salary Lane: Hourly pay starting at $22.25
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
