Overview

The Transportation Routing Coordinator supports the safe and efficient transportation of students by managing daily routing operations for the district. This position maintains accurate route data, assigns students to transportation services, coordinates with drivers and school staff, and ensures compliance with district policies and capacity guidelines. The coordinator assists with long-term planning, including monitoring community growth, supporting redistricting efforts, and integrating new developments into routing systems.

Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential for success in this role.

Primary Job Functions

Direct responsibilities include conducting annual evaluations of bus stops for safety, assigning new and transfer students to bus routes, maintaining route files and general education routing directions, monitoring district capacity, communicating routing directions and hazards to drivers, addressing concerns from families and community members, placing substitute drivers and aides as needed, incorporating GPS and mapping data for new developments into Versa Trans, maintaining district street files, coordinating daily Versa Trans data downloads with technology staff, and facilitating staff training on the Versa Trans routing system.

The role supports district growth planning, summer transportation, redistricting data support, and daily transportation office operations. The position may also serve as a substitute driver or aide when necessary and requires the use of Tyler Technology System components and adherence to Avon Community School Corporation policies and procedures. Professional development participation and other duties as assigned by the supervisor are expected.

Salary

and Schedule
  • Salary Lane: Hourly pay starting at $22.25.
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
  • Assigned Workday Calendar: 261 Days (Year-Round)
  • Job Status: Full-Time - 40 Hours per Week
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday
  • Benefits: Full-time positions are eligible for medical, dental insurance as well as supplemental benefits such as vision, life insurance, disability, etc. Eligible for PERF Retirement.

Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Certification: Valid driver's license; ability to obtain CDL with appropriate endorsements if required.
  • Experience: Experience in school transportation, logistics, dispatching, or related fields preferred.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Strong computer proficiency, including routing software, mapping tools, and data systems. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with drivers, school staff, families, and community members. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to analyze data and make decisions that support safety and efficiency. Strong problem-solving skills and comfort troubleshooting technical issues. Experience training staff or supporting technology adoption.
  • Other: Ability to remain calm and professional when addressing concerns from families or the community.
Essential Functions
  • Conduct annual evaluations of bus stops to identify safety concerns and verify student counts.
  • Assign new and transfer students to bus routes daily and communicate updates to drivers and school staff.
  • Maintain accurate route files and update all general education routing directions.
  • Monitor student counts to ensure buses operate within district capacity guidelines.
  • Communicate with drivers regarding routing directions, stop locations, and potential hazards.
  • Address bus stop and route concerns from parents, school buildings, and community members.
  • Assist with daily placement of substitute drivers and aides based on route needs.
  • Incorporate GPS and mapping data for new developments and streets into Versa Trans.
  • Maintain and update district street files and provide revised copies to school buildings as needed.
  • Coordinate daily data downloads to Versa Trans and troubleshoot system issues with technology staff.
  • Facilitate training for staff on the Versa Trans routing system and ensure consistent routing practices across the district.
  • Monitor district growth and planned developments to anticipate future transportation needs.
  • Support routing and logistics for summer school transportation.
  • Provide routing data and resources for redistricting committees and assist with related transportation planning.
  • Assist with daily operations within the transportation office.
  • Serve as a substitute driver or aide when necessary.
  • Utilize all components of the Tyler Technology System effectively.
  • Comply with all Avon Community School Corporation policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Participate in assigned professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
