- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in electrical systems, plumbing, or related field preferred.
- Certification: Valid driver’s license. Fire alarm system certification (NICET or equivalent) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in maintenance, with specific experience in fire alarm systems, water quality management and backflow prev enters preferred.
- Skills and Knowledge: Strong understanding of fire alarm systems, including installation of devices, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair. Knowledge of water testing procedures, chemical treatment, and compliance with local/state water safety regulations. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and safety codes. Proficient in using diagnostic tools and maintenance software.
- Other: Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Ability to work independently and manage multiple sites within the district. Effective communication skills for reporting and coordinating with school administrators. Ability to maintain a positive relationship with pupils, staff, parents, and the community.
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems across all district facilities to ensure compliance with safety standards. Manage all inspections and overall condition of fire extinguishers throughout the corporation. Manage and schedule annual inspections for sprinkler systems, fire hydrants, and Post Indicator Valves.
- Respond promptly to fire alarm system malfunctions and perform necessary repairs or coordinate with vendors for complex issues. Be on call 24/7 for any emergency at any time.
- Conduct regular water quality testing at designated points, boilers and chillers ensuring compliance with health regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and water quality reports for district compliance and audits.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules for fire alarm systems and water systems to minimize downtime and safety risks.
- Collaborate with district safety officers and facility managers to address any identified hazards or deficiencies.
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal safety codes and environmental regulations.
- Provide emergency support during fire alarm activations or water contamination alerts.
- Order and maintain inventory of necessary parts, tools, and testing supplies.
- Develop SOPs for procedures and locations of fire safety devices and NAC Panels.
- Develop an agreeable relationship with the local and state Fire Marshal.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with technology and regulatory changes.
- Responsible for building energy usage audits to help manage energy conservation.
- Comply with all Avon Community School Corporation policies, guidelines, procedures, and protocols.
