Ability to maintain a positive relationship with pupils, staff, parents, and the community.
- Maintains schedule as developed by supervising teacher.
- Works with individual or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Utilizes de-escalation techniques when behaviors and emotions are escalated, at the direction of the teacher.
- Prepares classroom or learning environment with needed supplies and materials.
- Accompanies students to general education and special area classes and supports them in those areas.
- Participates in in‑service training program.
- Assists with lunch, snack, and clean up routines as needed.
- Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Assists with supervision of students during emergency drills.
- Maintains records and collects data as directed by the teacher.
- Will provide personal care support for and with students as needed.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
- Performs other tasks and assumes additional responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
Provides support to the classroom and assists the classroom or resource teacher in achieving student learning objectives per Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Specific duties include working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve and maintain the skill levels of the class, assisting with classroom management, implementing student‑specific behavior plans, and providing special health care needs.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
