Job SummaryPrimary
Job Functions:
Provide one-on-one support to the student and resource teacher in achieving student learning objectives per Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Work with individual students or small groups to help them achieve and maintain the skill levels of the class. Assist with classroom management, implement student specific behavior plans and provide special health care needs support.
- Educational Requirements: High school diploma or GED required. Advanced work in special education preferred.
- Skills and Knowledge: Ability to relate well and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals including students, staff, parents, and classroom volunteers.
- Experience: None is required. Experience in a classroom setting preferred.
- Certification: None is required.
- Maintain schedule as developed by supervising teacher.
- Work with individual or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Guide independent study, enrichment work, and intervention work as set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Alert the classroom teacher to any problem or specific information about an individual student.
- Accompany students to general education and special area classes and support them in those areas.
- Utilize de‑escalation techniques when behaviors and emotions are escalated, at the direction of the teacher.
- Participate in in‑service training programs.
- Assist with lunch, snack, and clean‑up routines as needed.
- Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Assist with supervision of students during emergency drills.
- Maintain records and collect data as directed by the teacher.
- Provide personal care support for and with students as needed.
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
- Perform other such tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the principal may assign.
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to focus.
Salary and Work HoursSalary Lane: Hourly pay starting at $19.25.
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt.
Assigned Workdays Per Year: 181 days (School Year Days).
Job Status: Full‑Time (35 hours per week).
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:15am – 2:45pm.
Full‑time positions are eligible for medical, dental insurance as well as supplemental benefits such as vision, life insurance, disability, etc. Eligible for PERF Retirement.
Paid Time Off Benefits: Eligible.
Holiday Pay: Not Eligible.
