Cornerstone Preschool is a premier early childhood center and a vital mission of ALPC, presently serving over 145 children and their families. For decades, Cornerstone Preschool has been a leader in the Avon Lake community, known for our exceptional reputation, high‑caliber teaching staff, and commitment to nurturing the whole child.
We are seeking a dedicated leader to succeed our present director, who is retiring after 18 years of distinguished service. This position is an invitation to lead a thriving, stable, and highly‑regarded program into its next chapter of excellence, fostering deep collaboration between the preschool and the church.
Target Hire Date: May 2026 (to allow for leadership transition and overlap).
Core Responsibilities I. Organizational Governance & Accountability- Maintain Cornerstone’s position as the preferred preschool in Avon Lake.
- Reporting Structure: Operates under the supervision of the Pastor/Head of Staff and coordinates closely with the volunteer Committees of Session and Preschool Advisory Board.
- Alignment: Ensures preschool activities, policies, and staff behaviors align with the mission, vision, and ethical standards of Avon Lake Presbyterian Church.
- Collaborative Leadership: Attends regular church staff meetings to ensure preschool operations are integrated with the broader church calendar and mission.
- Budget Development: Drafts and manages an annual budget of approximately $500k.
- Fiscal Accountability: Presents budget proposals to the Preschool Advisory Board for endorsement and manages the preschool’s financial goals with the advice and approval of the Session regarding tuition rates, salary scales, and major expenditures.
- Operational Supervision: Oversees office staff and administrative functions, including payroll, tuition billing, student records, and website maintenance.
- Staffing: Leads our elite team of preschool educators.
- Hiring: Leads the interviewing and selection process for teachers with the advice and approval of the Session regarding final hiring decisions and contracts.
- Professional Development: Conducts annual performance evaluations, facilitates staff meetings, and ensures all teachers complete State‑required training.
- Program Growth: Develops the school calendar and curricula; coordinates new classes or major program changes with the advice and approval of the Preschool Advisory Board.
- Educational Support: Provides pedagogical leadership to the teaching staff and may provide classroom coverage or specialized instruction as needed to maintain program excellence.
- State Standards: Maintains full compliance with all State of Ohio licensing codes, safety procedures, and requirements (Ohio Revised Code section 3301).
- Community Relations: Serves as the primary liaison to preschool families and the broader community, ensuring consistent and professional communication.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education strongly preferred.
- Certification: Must meet Ohio Preschool Program Administrator qualifications (including 9 credits in administration and 24 credits in ECE/Child Development).
- Experience: Previous classroom teaching experience and demonstrated administrative leadership.
- Core Competencies: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead a large program within a collaborative, church‑governed framework.
- Integrity: Must pass all background checks; behavior must remain consistent with the ethics of ALPC.
- Schedule: Typically 40 hours per week, varying seasonally.
