Position OverviewThe Heavy Paving Equipment/Diesel Mechanic (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). work closely with the Milling, Asphalt, Trucking, and Maintenance Teams to ensure company-owned tools, equipment and vehicles are always maintained in good working order, consistent with direction provided by his/her direct manager.
The ideal candidate has experience with maintenance of diesel equipment, particularly relating to trucking machinery, is familiar with paving operations in heavy highways, keeps safety at the forefront, values dependability and reliability, can work independently with exemplary work ethic, and holds a valid class B or A commercial driver's license (CDL).
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate condition of defective tools, equipment and fleet vehicles located at the Yard, at construction job sites, or other locations such as roadsides; collaborate with the Equipment Manager in trouble shooting defective equipment and participate in discussions to arrive to solutions for dealing with defective items.
- For items requiring more extensive or unusual repairs, prepare an estimate of cost to complete repair and seek authorization to proceed from the Equipment Manager before commencing repair.
- Following a standard maintenance schedule developed collaboratively with the Equipment Manager, perform routine maintenance on company-owned tools, equipment and vehicles. Ensure that maintenance is performed on schedule, to standard and that accurate logs of such maintenance are kept up to date.
- Place approved orders for replacement parts with vendors; ensure that the Equipment Manager is informed of all such deliveries and that all associated paperwork is provided to the Equipment Manager in a timely manner.
- Before departing work each day, ensure that the shop area is neat, clean and orderly; all tools are stored in their proper place and the shop surfaces are free of trash and debris.
- Familiarity with Texas area and roadways
- Understands the complexities of the trucking and asphalt industries
- Additional responsibilities as may be assumed or assigned from time to time in support of our company's effort to achieve client loyalty.
- Trade school or 3-5+ years of qualified experience
- Candidates must possess a Commercial Driver's License that is valid and clear, as well as corresponding clear MVR and FMCSA Clearinghouse Query.
- Must meet DOT employment requirements
- Work experience with diagnostics, maintenance, and operation of asphalt, milling, and trucking equipment and vehicles.
- Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindset
- Must be positive, friendly, and professional
- Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting
- Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
- Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.

- High School Diploma or GED, but not required
- Knowledge of how equipment and vehicles operate and are maintained
- Ability to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
- Must demonstrate professional communication in reaching out to employees and managers for needed documents
- Willingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as they arise
- Mechanics may work at various locations, including construction sites, mines, other heavy equipment operations, and roadside locations.
