Senior Java Developer

Summary

Onset Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to support application development initiatives for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. The ideal candidate will have strong full‑stack development experience using Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, and modern JavaScript frameworks such as React or Angular. This role requires hands‑on expertise across the full application lifecycle, including design, development, API integration, performance tuning, and security implementation.

• Design, develop, and maintain front‑end user interfaces and back‑end services using Java, Spring Boot, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
• Participate in high‑level and detailed design, development, testing, and deployment of new application components.
• Manage full application lifecycle including database design, API integration, testing, and deployment.
• Create and maintain technical and design documentation.
• Analyze applications for configuration and performance tuning opportunities.
• Identify code vulnerabilities and implement remediation measures.
• Implement responsive, client‑facing web applications.
• Integrate web services into Angular or React‑based single‑page applications (SPAs).
• Apply best practices for application design, scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• 8+ years designing and developing web‑based applications using Java and J2EE technologies.
• 8+ years front‑end UI development using modern JavaScript frameworks (React or Angular).
• 8+ years experience in web services design and development, including API integration.
• 8+ years experience with open‑source Java frameworks such as Spring Boot.
• 8+ years implementing RESTful service security using JWT, OAuth, or similar standards.
• 8+ years experience implementing applications utilizing JEE application servers.
• 8+ years experience building responsive, client‑facing applications.
• 8+ years experience integrating web services into Angular or React SPAs.
• Strong experience implementing best practices for performance, scalability, and maintainability.

• 5+ years experience with JBoss Enterprise Application Platform.
• 5+ years experience working in Agile development environments.
• Experience working with state government or healthcare/public sector systems (nice to have).

• Short‑to‑mid‑term contract opportunity with direct client engagement.
• Hybrid work model at Austin, TX location. 3 days remote / 2 days onsite (Mon & Tues required onsite).
• High-impact public sector technology initiatives.
