The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Lead HVAC Mechanic with advanced technical skills and the ability to layout and install applied HVAC equipment independently, with little to no direction. The Lead HVAC Mechanic will supervise a team of installation technicians on customer job sites while performing maintenance, testing and repairs of applied equipment. The position requires a high level of correspondence with Project Managers, Service Coordinators and customers.
Responsibilities
- Ability to layout and install applied HVAC equipment independently, with little to no direction.
- Supervise team of installation technicians on customer job sites.
- Perform startup of applied equipment and complete log sheet after completion of startup.
- Communicate directly with end user customers on installation and startup of applied equipment with the ability to answer customer questions as needed.
- Perform depot maintenance, testing and repairs including refrigerant removal, evacuation, system charging and refrigerant piping leak repairs.
- Perform limited electrical troubleshooting while following all lockout/tagout and PPE procedures.
- Ability to read and use wiring diagrams to point out all components and use meter to confirm all input and output voltages.
- Collect superheat and sub-cooling data on all applied equipment.
- Navigate equipment control panels using keypad to start/stop, reset and change setpoints on all applied equipment.
- Ability to lead a team of installers on a multiple chiller application.
The Required Profile
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must have valid driver’s license with good driving record
- Must have current HVAC certification and OSHA 10 Training
- Previous experience of 5+ years in chiller/HVAC maintenance, mechanical engineering, or other related fields.
- Electrical knowledge required and EPA Certification Preferred (i.e. HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer, etc.)
- Familiarity with manufacturing designs or schematics.
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Good analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to train junior technicians.
- Excellent customer service skills with desire to exceed customer expectations.
- Ability to work independently in a timely manner, making sure job is done correctly the first time.
- Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and working proficiency with handheld computer (i.e. Smartphone, iPad)
- Ability to work in diverse conditions including but not limited to mechanical equipment rooms with exposure to noisy operating equipment, exposure to extreme weather conditions, risk of electrical shock (high voltage), climbing/working at elevated heights, etc.
- Must be able to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel and must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
