Purpose

Provide journey‑level skills in Carpentry work in support of campus facility renovation and repair projects. Also support campus special events.

Responsibilities
  • Perform rough and finish carpentry in the renovation and repair of campus facilities, including selective demolition, framing, alteration, and repair of floors, ceilings, roofs, walls, and related structures. Provide support to facility renovation, repair, and construction projects in compliance with project documents and schedules.
  • Select, order, and cut materials as appropriate to meet project requirements. Assemble and install suspended ceilings, doors, windows, cabinets, trim, and associated hardware. Safely utilize all standard tools of the trade. Mortise doors; install locksets and exit hardware for mechanical and electronically‑controlled doors.
  • Promote and maintain frequent communications and positive relations with all stakeholders. Promote a culture of teamwork within shop and with other shops. Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely completion of projects. Emphasize accountability for meeting schedule commitments. Practice and promote the values and goals of the university and the hiring department.
  • Provide timely and accurate processing of shop written and electronic documentation, including material requisitions, timesheets, and daily labor reports. Develop estimates and order materials. Assist team members in solving work‑related problems ntain high standards for employee conduct, productivity, and safety.
  • Support and promote university safety procedures, in coordination with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). Follow safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment, shop and jobsite cleanliness, and compliance with published policies and procedures for safe operation of shop equipment and vehicles. Ensure appropriate handling of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead, mold, and silica.
