Summary Of Position

Reporting Supervisor:
Director of Campus Security

The School Resource Officer (SRO) is responsible for working in collaboration with the school and the community as a resource for safety and security issues. The SRO assists the school administration in maintaining a safe and secure environment by providing a highly visible presence to deter or identify trespassers on campus and mitigate any potential situations or threats that compromise the safety and security of St.

Michael’s Prep. Additionally, the SRO will work in collaboration with the Director of Campus Security to assess and implement security and safety protocols associated with events that pose a safety risk to students, faculty and staff.

The Security Officer plays a vital role in fostering a safe, welcoming, and respectful school environment by building strong, professional relationships with faculty, staff, and students. This position requires a calm, thoughtful presence — someone who is approachable, trustworthy, and consistently visible as a supportive figure within the school community. An ideal candidate brings a proactive, relational mindset to campus safety, with a strong emphasis on kindness, empathy, and the ability to de‑escalate situations with patience and clear communication.

Rather than leading with authority, this officer leads with connection, using sound judgment and emotional intelligence to maintain security while reinforcing a culture of care, trust, and mutual respect.

  • Serve as the afternoon/evening SRO by maintaining a 3 pm‑11 pm work schedule for after‑school care, sporting practices and games, special events, etc.

  • Ensure that school property is secure and locked when appropriate.
  • Report all concerns related to health and safety, and incidents of misbehavior to the proper school authority.
  • Actively monitor the interior and exterior of the campus for any unauthorized persons. Provide security for parking areas.
  • Respond to all alarms, security situations, breaches, maintenance problems, and fire and building hazards, as requested.
  • Assist local law enforcement and other emergency response staff as requested. Complete all documentation and reports as established by school site personnel.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students.
  • Maintain professional boundaries in relationships with colleagues and students.
