Overview
JOB PURPOSE: The Kitchen Staff supports the Kitchen Manager in preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious meals for shelter residents. This role ensures food is prepared safely, the kitchen is kept clean and sanitary, and meals are delivered on time to shelter sites. The Kitchen Staff works as part of a team to provide dignified, high-quality meal service to residents.
Responsibilities- Assist with preparing, cooking, and portioning meals according to planned menus.
- Set up serving areas and help distribute meals to residents.
- Ensure meals are served at appropriate temperatures and portion sizes.
- Assist with packing and delivering meals to shelter site, when needed.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, dining, and food storage areas.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment promptly.
- Properly store leftovers and label food according to safety standards.
- Assist the Kitchen Manager with inventory, deliveries, and stocking supplies.
- Receive and organize food donations and vendor deliveries.
- Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Treat residents with dignity and respect while supporting meal service.
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or shortages to the Kitchen Manager.
- Participate in staff trainings and meetings.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support shelter operations.

ESSENTIAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
- EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required.
- EXPERIENCE: 4 months to 1 year of experience in food service kitchen/cafeteria. Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and safe food handling practices.
- ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance. Dependable, team-oriented, and flexible with scheduling needs (including evenings, weekends, or holidays).
- LICENSES: Driver's License with clear record. Serv Safe Food Handler certificate (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
- VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.
- WORK LOCATION: In Person
- OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations as needed. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk to safety or health. Must be 21 years or older. Must be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident. Must pass a criminal history screen. Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
