Purpose

of Position

Direct institutional research within System Administration and lead business intelligence functions to provide robust analytical support for the executive director and System administrative offices. Implement and manage initiatives related to the UT System Dashboard, seek

UT, and other major projects. Conduct advanced quantitative analysis of critical higher education issues faced by the University of Texas System, interpret results, and provide clear, straightforward written and/or graphical displays for a wide variety of audiences. Oversee and mentor assistant directors and staff.

Essential Functions
  • Manage the research and business intelligence teams to promote alignment of processes and priorities, focusing on professional development to increase the group’s capacity to conduct timely and accurate analyses, and build tools to help UT System leadership make decisions.
  • Support the executive director and UT System executives by providing robust analysis of critical issues and taking on special projects as needed, including conducting research studies, contributing to analyses, writing project results, and completing ad hoc data requests.
  • Provide oversight on the collection, analysis, and reporting of data for ongoing uses and special requests, streamlining requests and reducing reporting burdens on campuses. Work with assistant directors to ensure quality control processes are followed consistently and to identify needed improvements. Oversee maintenance of the UT System Dashboard and seek

  • Represent the executive director at meetings and on projects as assigned.
  • Translate available data and analysis into relevant and timely messages for internal and external communications, overseeing production of regular and special reports and developing new communication avenues.
  • Design and develop a research approach that utilizes sound and appropriate methodology—both inferential and descriptive—for the specific research question for UT System administration and the 13 institutions.
  • Research and stay current with the literature and industry best practices in higher education and data science, monitoring trends to identify topics for new research studies and aligning goals with System-wide initiatives.
  • Provide oversight of the office’s administrative operations, including budget, accounts, and staff.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of higher‑education topics such as institutional research, student outcomes, faculty productivity, research expenditures, and institutional efficiency.
  • Project‑management skills and ability to lead collaborative research and business‑intelligence teams.
  • Experience conducting research and analyzing quantitative information with an eye toward communications and policy evaluation/development.
  • Knowledge of ETL processes and key data‑warehousing concepts; ability to ensure business‑intelligence applications enhance decision‑making.
  • Experience effectively analyzing, integrating, and clearly communicating complex ideas at conceptual, strategic, and tactical levels.
