8-12 hour shifts depending on need, rotating weekends and on-call required

Elgin Veterinary Hospital is looking for an Equine Veterinary Technician to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.

As a Veterinary Technician, you'll play an important role in pets' lives by providing comprehensive care throughout their journey. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to surgery assistance, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.

• Must have previous Equine experience that includes working with equine in a professional environment.
• Know how to handle racehorses, give injections and apply bandages.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
• Positive attitude.
• Have a teamwork mindset and be able to anticipate veterinarian needs.
• Have exceptional dedication to animal care and facility cleanliness.
• Ability to perform essential job functions outdoors in varying weather conditions, including but not limited to excessive heat or cold, rain, and icy conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation
• Must be able to lift 50+ lbs, stoop, bend, and stand for extended periods as required by the role, with or without reasonable accommodation
• Available to work 40+ hours a week, rotating full weekend shifts, on-call, and holidays

Include but are not limited to:

• Assist with appointments
• Run lab work
• Administer treatments: oral, IV, IM, ophthalmic
• Prepare medications
• Take TPR’s
• On call rotation
• Other tasks as assigned
