Job SummaryThe only dedicated freestanding pediatric level I trauma center in Central Texas, is seeking a high-acuity Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) Nurse. This specialized unit manages the most complex congenital heart defects and post-surgical cardiac repairs in the region. You will provide critical care to patients ranging from neonates to young adults, including those requiring advanced mechanical circulatory support.
Key Responsibilities- Post-Surgical Management: Provide immediate post-operative care for complex congenital heart repairs (e.g., Norwood, Fontan, and arterial switch procedures).
- Advanced Hemodynamic Monitoring: Manage and interpret data from arterial lines, central venous catheters, and transthoracic intracardiac lines.
- Mechanical Circulatory Support: Monitor and troubleshoot Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD) and coordinate care for heart failure and transplant patients.
- Vasoactive Med Management: Titrate complex continuous infusions including milrinone, epinephrine, and prostaglandin to maintain cardiac output and systemic perfusion.
- Rhythm Interpretation: Monitor for post-surgical arrhythmias and manage epicardial pacing as indicated.
- Experience: Minimum 18 months of dedicated Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU experience is required.
- Licensure: Active Texas State RN License or Compact License.
- Certifications: * BLS & PALS (AHA) – Required.
- ACLS – Preferred.
- Clinical Skills: Proficiency in managing neonatal through young adult populations with congenital heart disease.
- Department: Pediatric ICU Unit 002 (10501).
- Capacity: 24-bed Peds Cardiac ICU plus a 12-bed overflow unit.
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: * 1:1 for high-acuity/unstable patients.
- 1:2 for standard ICU status.
- 1:3 for stepdown/overflow patients.
