Clinical Nurse Supervisor – The University of Texas at Austin
Position within the Dell Medical School – Ambulatory Clinic. The Clinical Nurse Supervisor ensures coordinated care, delivers services, and manages clinical units. Supervises all clinical support staff (RNs, LVNs, CMAs, technicians) and provides training, mentoring, and coaching.
Responsibilities- Supervise and oversee daily activities of clinical support staff, including staffing schedules to meet provider and patient needs.
- Ensure staff onboarding, ongoing training, and competency completion; provide regular coaching and feedback.
- Delegate responsibilities, manage electronic health record clinical inboxes, oversee unit logs, and handle unit phone system communications.
- Act as first escalation point for patient and clinical matters.
- Provide patient education as needed.
- Maintain supply inventory and manage costs.
- Deliver direct nursing care based on clinic staffing ratios.
- Provide feedback on process improvement initiatives and operational efficiency.
- Cross‑train in other ambulatory care clinics.
- Attend nursing operations meetings and provide expertise to the Clinical Education department.
- Assume responsibility for clinic operations in absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager.
- Promote professional growth, meet mandatory and continuing education requirements, and serve as preceptor and mentor.
- Adhere to internal controls and reporting structures.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients.
- Proficient with computer systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and business office equipment.
- Energetic, organized, dependable, detail‐oriented; able to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills, with ability to process complex information and present clearly.
- Knowledge of value‑based health care delivery models and relevant metrics.
- Understanding of clinical workflows and performance improvement in clinical settings.
- High self‑motivation and ability to work efficiently with minimal guidance.
- Ability to succeed in a demanding, fluid work environment.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing; at least 3 years of nursing experience in an outpatient or inpatient setting.
- Unencumbered Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
- BLS certification.
- Experience as a charge nurse or in a supervisory capacity.
- 5 years of relevant experience in a healthcare environment.
- Supervisory experience may substitute for years of nursing experience.
$93,500 plus additional compensation based on qualifications.
Working Conditions- Standard office conditions, occasional biohazard exposure.
- Repetitive keyboard use, manual dexterity, lifting and moving.
