Overview
The Settlement Home for Children is seeking a Development Director to lead fundraising strategy and donor relations, with a focus on major gifts and annual revenue growth. This position reports to the Executive Team and Leadership Team and provides guidance to the Development Team while ensuring compliance with licensing, fundraising best practices, and internal policies.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement a comprehensive development plan covering all facets of fundraising
- Lead major donor programs, including cultivation, solicitations, and stewardship
- Expand fundraising activity, identify donor prospects, and diversify the donor base
- Oversee planned giving and estate gifts in alignment with donor wishes
- Monitor donations and donor database; acknowledge gifts and analyze donor trends
- Plan fundraising drives and solicitations
- Sponsor Garage & Estate Sale activities and recognition
- Research foundation, corporate, and organizational funding opportunities
- Create strategies to grow development capacity and the donor pipeline
- Maintain donor stewardship and recognition programs
- Represent The Settlement Home in the community through public speaking and solicitations
- Recruit and engage new Advisory Board members and volunteers
- Attend fundraising events and participate in annual Garage & Estate Sale and other events
- Collaborate with Communications to implement donor-focused marketing and communications
- Work with the Garage & Estate Sale committees to maximize proceeds; present fundraising reports to Board and Club
- Foster a culture of philanthropy among staff, leadership, Board, and volunteers
- Oversee fundraising training and education for Board, Club members, and staff
Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of fundraising principles and techniques
- Ability to develop strategies, cultivate support, build partnerships, and raise public awareness
- Effective public speaking and donor solicitation skills
- Knowledge of Austin donor community, foundations, corporations, and social sector
- Experience with donor management systems and grant writing
- Ability to engage with diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and use organizational systems
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethical conduct
- Professional work habits, dress and grooming standards
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of five (5) years fundraising experience, particularly in major gifts
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in the Austin fundraising and donor community
- Experience implementing development plans and achieving fundraising goals
- Must meet personnel requirements per Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Minimum Standards for General Residency Operations
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; auto liability insurance
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Public Relations or related field
- Two (2)+ years as a Development Manager/Director
- Planned Giving and Endowments experience
- Experience with nonprofit Boards and supervisory experience
- CFRE certification
Physical Requirements /Working Conditions
Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. May lift up to 20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently. Responsibilities include walking, standing, sitting, stooping, lifting, speaking, and repetitive motion. May involve reaching, balancing, kneeling, and crouching. Requires close visual acuity and hearing for data preparation, reading, and communication.
