Gain hands-on experience driving innovation in the blindness field while contributing to the movement that raises expectations and creates opportunities for blind people nationwide. Apply for our summer internship!
The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) advances the lives of its members and all blind people in the United States. We know that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future.
Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination, and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.
The Problem We SolveThe problem is that blind people are not challenged to reach higher goals. Blind people need real opportunities, free from the low expectations or false validation that prohibits them from acquiring the skills necessary for them to be truly competitive.
Although there may be many organizations dedicated to assisting blind people in developing blindness skills needed to navigate and adapt to the world around them, most are limited in scope and do not fully understand what a blind person needs.
Problem solving. Self-confidence. Coping with public attitudes. Braille. Independent travel. Access technology. Independent living skills. Blind people can be truly successful with the right training. However, this can only be done in the right environment.
The National Federation of the Blind is transforming how blind people perceive themselves and what they can accomplish. We recognize that you face unique challenges, and we are committed to empowering you to reach and achieve your dreams.
NFB is a leader in creating innovative education and employment programs, technologies, research, and partnerships that continue to create groundbreaking opportunities for the blind.
Our Summer Internship Program is one of the many programs we implement to support the development of next generation leaders that will build greater opportunities for blind people.
What to ExpectYou’ll experience high expectations that encourage and support the development of real-world skills in a professional, real-world environment.
