Hours: Full-time position. Hybrid role - primarily virtual with in-person meetings and events. Occasional evening and weekend work for fundraising and member events.
Company DescriptionThe Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas (DSACT) is an Austin-based organization dedicated to improving the lives of people with Down syndrome. We offer programs, resources, and support for individuals with Down syndrome and their families; and training for educators, medical professionals, and community groups. We also support medical research and postsecondary educational opportunities and are committed to advocating for the disability community at the local, state, and national levels.
Role DescriptionThe Executive Director (ED) serves as the key management leader of DSACT. This role is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. The ED will champion DSACT's mission, vision, and values, ensuring impactful community outreach, financial sustainability, and operational excellence. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities Staff Management- Recruit, develop, retain, and support a high-performing team. Evaluate staff and set staff salaries within budget constraints
- Assess staff and community needs to propose staff additions and changes
- Build and sustain a strong organizational culture focused on transparency, respect, and collaboration
- Oversee DSACT programming success and growth, evaluate efficacy of programming and services in collaboration with the DSACT Programs & Events Manager and Education & Outreach Manager
- Oversee communication and media strategy with support from Staff
- Facilitate annual staff retreat
- Work with staff on annual goals with quarterly check-ins
- Manage operations including annual insurance renewals, bi-weekly payroll, and annual 1099 and 990 process
- Review financial transactions and their categories. Reconcile bank accounts and run financial reports monthly
- Lead budget process, working with the DSACT Staff and Board in overseeing and preparing a budget and monitoring financial performance against budget guidelines.
- Create and maintain accurate internal processes documentation. Work with Staff to improve internal processes.
- Manage the tech stack, including donor and member database.
- Ensure financial compliance, transparency, and long-term stability through sound cash flow management.
- Partner with the Board of Directors to fulfill DSACT’s mission
- Provide transparent, timely, and accurate information to support informed Board decisions for policies and programs. Implement board decisions, bylaws, and policies
- Work with the board president to create board meeting agendas and facilitate annual board retreats.
- Assist in the recruitment, orientation, and development of Board members.
- Sits in on appropriate committee meetings as a non-voting member. Support board committees providing information as needed.
- Serve as a spokesperson for DSACT, representing the organization in public forums, with media, and at community events
- Advocate for policies and initiatives that support DSACT’s mission and the broader disability community
- Strengthen partnerships with local government, community leaders, local nonprofits, and advocacy groups to advance systemic change
- Partner with other Texas DSAs for biennial advocacy event at the Capitol
- Cultivate relationships with existing DSACT supporters including but not limited to families, members, extended families, non-family donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
- Maintain strong communication with members to understand their needs and adapt services and programs accordingly.
