Overview
The Coordinator, Community Engagement, plays a vital role in fostering strong connections between our organization and the local community. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement strategies to engage and empower community members, stakeholders, and volunteers. You will collaborate with various departments and community partners to promote our mission, programs, and initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, strong leadership abilities, and a passion for community development.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement community engagement strategies to connect with various stakeholders, including community members, organizations, and local businesses to implement outreach prevention education, harm reduction, and HIV/HCV/STI counselling, testing and referral (CTR) services.
- Build and maintain relationships with key community partners, such as local universities, nonprofits, government agencies, and other relevant organizations.
- Organize and facilitate community events and activities to promote awareness, prevention services and collaboration.
- Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to develop engaging content for social media platforms, fliers, brochures, and other communication strategies. Align messaging with the broader prevention team to reflect services.
- Track and measure the impact of community engagement efforts, regularly reporting on key metrics and providing recommendations for improvement.
- Stay informed about community trends, issues, and resources to adapt engagement strategies and ensure relevance and effectiveness.
- Maintain complete and organized records of all meetings and events.
- Adhere to all agency policies, including Confidentiality, Employee Handbook, Health Care Corporate Compliance Plan, Standards of Conduct, training, and other relevant policies.
Education
- Associate’s degree or 2-4 years of work experience in community engagement, event planning, and/or social media management, preferably with a prevention and/or public health focus.
Work Experience
- Associate’s degree or 2-4 years of work experience in community engagement, event planning, and/or social media management, preferably with a prevention and/or public health focus.
Technical Experience
- Proficiency in using various communication and social media platforms to engage and connect with communities.
- Community Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification, a plus.
- A valid driver’s license, auto insurance and clean driving record.
Soft Skills
- Must be willing and able to travel within and throughout Wisconsin.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the HIV/AIDS patient population and/or an eagerness to learn about this community.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and a strong comfort level in discussing issues of sexuality, orientation, gender, and sex.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to connect with diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to motivate and inspire community members and colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Passion for community engagement and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of the people we serve.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of community development principles, practices, and current trends.
- Ability to type along with a working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and Windows OS.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- HIV experience in a not-for-profit environment.
- Knowledge and/or experience working with HIV/AIDS, PrEP, and alcohol and other drug (AODA) issues.
- Bilingual.
