Austin Bridge & Road is currently seeking an experienced Safety Manager for projects in the Austin, Texas area. The Safety Manager provides support to the Safety Director by implementing safety reviews of job sites and ensuring a safe, healthy, and accident‑free work environment through oversight of safety systems and training for office and field personnel.
Supervisory Responsibilities- Supervise 1–2 safety professionals
- Examine project settings, equipment, products, and by‑products for safety considerations.
- Manage preconstruction and bid‑selection safety process.
- Develop and review project JHA and safety execution plans for subcontractor selection and compliance.
- Identify potential hazards and develop strategies to eliminate or control exposures.
- Interpret and disseminate hazard information.
- Develop and conduct training programs for proper working methods, controls, and personal protective equipment.
- Identify non‑compliance with the current HCSS program and report findings.
- Create and present safety‑training programs including specialized, re‑certification, new‑hire orientation, and procedural sessions.
- Ensure training records are documented and filed.
- Monitor training effectiveness and attend sessions to improve professional skills.
- Monitor work habits and conditions on all jobs.
- Develop reports or perform administrative functions as requested.
- Interact with field personnel, supervisors, and management to disseminate safety information.
- Conduct or attend incident investigations when required.
- Generate, create, and distribute reports within given time frames.
- Coordinate and lead project site safety meetings.
- Conduct daily site assessments of work areas.
- Assist in pre‑job activities to ensure safety compliance.
- Provide medical treatment as needed.
- Report unsafe conditions to management.
- Assist with issuance, exchange, inventory, and stocking of safety equipment and first‑aid supplies.
- Assist in emergencies involving the directing and accounting of personnel.
- Manage incident occurrence (workers’ comp., injuries, accidents).
- Establish treatment centers at project locations as needed.
- Create and conduct periodic training programs as needed.
- Act as liaison to owner representatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in safety management.
- CHST, CSHO, ASP, or CSP certification preferred.
- OSHA 500 preferred.
- CMAR and preconstruction experience preferred.
- Experience with asphalt laydown operations and asphalt plant operations preferred.
- Good organizer, meticulous, and good public speaker at ease moderating large groups.
- Knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and PowerPoint required.
- Bilingual preferred, highly desirable.
- Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in safety management within construction or related industries.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Health or a related field preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Proven ability to supervise and mentor a team of 1–2 safety professionals.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective public speaking skills, including leading safety training and incident investigations.
