We have partnered with a reputable dealership group with multiple locations in Central Texas in its search for a Controller. This individual will lead the Accounting function for an award-winning chain of automobile dealerships, including general ledger oversight, leading the monthly close process, and preparation of GAAP-based financial statements. The Controller will manage a small team of accounting and administrative staff, while reporting to ownership.

This person will also perform FP&A duties, while serving as the administrator for the DMS (dealership management system), and assisting with HR & Benefits administration. Specific job duties will include the following:

  • Managing a small group of accounting & administrative team members at multiple dealership locations, including A/P, A/R, Payroll, and Office staff
  • Leading the month-end close process, including general ledger oversight, account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and variance analysis
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Oversight of budgets, cash flow, expense tracking, and profitability analysis for multiple locations
  • Administration of the dealership management software, along with other IT systems, while collaborating with third-party service providers
  • Serving as the main point-of-contact for the external CPA firm during the annual audit, along with Tax reporting
  • Assisting with benefits administration and HR duties, while partnering with ownership during special projects and initiatives

To be considered, candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • At least six (6+) years of accounting experience, including at least three (3+) years in a dealership environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Accounting or related field
  • Proven experience utilizing a DMS (dealer management software) such as CDK, Dealer track, IDS, Dealer Center, etc. is needed
  • Multi-location or multi-entity accounting experience is preferred, but not required
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, along with strong Microsoft Excel skills are necessary
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with previous team leadership experience
