Summary of Position

The AMM will report directly to the Maintenance and Asset Manager (MM). This is a supervisory position - two or more staff will report to this position.

The AMM is responsible for the day‑to‑day operations of the Administration of the Maintenance divisions. He/She will assist the MM in the daily management of asset and maintenance management at the District. He/She shall ensure all operations comply with federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and policies of the District.

The AMM identifies areas needing improvement and prepares/recommends plans for increased effectiveness, recommending potential pathways and system improvements to drive program improvement. The Assistant Maintenance Manager will provide backup to the Maintenance Manager to assist and ensure the Department maintains the highest standards for preventative and corrective maintenance.

He/She will assist the MM to ensure the District’s assets are managed to maximize the length of service and service effectiveness while ensuring the cost of procurement is balanced against need, return on investment, and flexibility of service.

He/She will assist the MM in directing the maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment, specifically pumps, valve motors, programmable logic controllers, and electrical and SCADA control equipment. Responsible for establishing, maintaining, and monitoring the District-wide maintenance schedule. He/She will lead the establishment of a system of training for maintenance personnel, and the short and long‑term health of all District Assets.

Interfaces with the public and with various repair and supply services.

Coordinates with other departments concerning requirements for maintenance and repair.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Administration:
    • Coordinates with the MM to create and maintain standards for technical excellence of all maintenance facilities and personnel.
    • Ensures that relevant policies and procedures comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
    • Maintains knowledge of changes in relevant rules and their implications for the District's policies and procedures. Ensures the MM is aware of pertinent changes.
    • Anticipates and provides recommendations for developing new programs and facilities, training needs, and opportunities.
  • Management:
    • Assists the Maintenance Manager in the development of annual budgets based on past performance and planned growth by reviewing maintenance and asset planning to identify opportunities for efficiency and cost reduction.
    • Assists the Maintenance Manager in the development of strategic short‑term and long‑term asset management and replacement scheduling with a cost assessment.
    • Assists the Maintenance Manager in maintaining an inventory of District Assets, to include anything with a replacement value greater than $5,000. Maintains a critical asset list and inventory management to ensure ready repair parts are maintained on hand as needed.
  • Technical:
    • Inspects all maintenance operations to ensure that all facilities and services comply with all regulatory agencies' guidelines.
    • Advises the Maintenance Manager and, when called upon, represents the Maintenance Manager regarding issues involving technical concerns and issues.
    • Assists in the preparation and review of plans for facilities, services, and construction to ensure compliance with District policies.
    • Assists the Maintenance Manager with the review and implementation of safety procedures for District personnel.
    • Leads the planning process for Preventive Maintenance operations at the District. Ensures parts inventories are maintained to allow the timely completion of planned maintenance.
