DIVISION – LEGAL
About the Legal DivisionThe Legal Division represents the public interest by advocating for Commission staff in contested cases before SOAH and the Public Utility Commission of Texas. The division provides legal analysis, case strategy, and litigation support in matters involving electric, telecommunications, and water and sewer utilities. It also offers legal and policy guidance to agency staff and Commissioners, supports rule making and regulatory initiatives, and ensures the Commission’s actions are legally sound and consistent with state and federal law.
The Legal Division seeks a Part-Time Law Clerk to support attorneys in regulatory and administrative proceedings. The Law Clerk conducts legal research and analysis and drafts memoranda, briefs, and other written materials related to administrative matters. This role also assists with reviewing filings, monitoring developments in utility law, and supporting attorneys in contested cases. It provides hands-on exposure to litigation support, regulatory practice, and public service.
The ideal candidate should possess the following minimum qualifications.
Current enrollment as a third-year (3L) law school student at an accredited law school.
This is a part-time law clerk position limited to third-year (3L) law students, with hours ranging from 10 - 20 hours per week. Continued employment after graduation is not guaranteed and will be determined by the Division Director based on division needs and employee interest.
