Overview

Responsible for identifying and resolving conflicts of interest in order to support the firm’s business intake clearance functions. Works closely with members of the Office of the General Counsel, the New Business Intake team and other Conflicts Attorneys.

Position Overview Responsibilities
  • Identifies and resolves conflicts of interest and other business issues presented in connection with new clients, new matters and new parties.
  • Reviews the conflicts reports for new clients, matters and parties prepared by the New Business Intake team to determine which items pose potential conflicts, research as required, and determine how those potential conflicts may be resolved.
  • Prepares a report to the originating attorney noting the items that required analysis, how those items were resolved, and whether any follow-up work remains to be done by the originating attorney.
  • Assists in drafting engagement letters and conflict waivers, and reviews Outside Counsel Guidelines provided by clients for ethical or risk-related issues.
  • In performing these tasks, the Conflicts Attorney will routinely work with other members of the Office of the General Counsel, the originating attorneys, other firm attorneys, and the New Business Intake team.

Working Conditions
  • Job is performed in a typical office environment, but is subject to time pressures and constraints, and is often dependent on input from others.
Education
  • A bachelor’s degree and a law degree from an accredited law school are required. In addition, must have an active bar membership in the state in which they are officed.
Experience
  • Three years of relevant experience practicing law is required. Experience working on a conflicts team, and working at an international law firm is desired.
Special Knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of the conflict-of-interest principles established by professional responsibility rules
Technical Skills
  • Basic knowledge of an electronic conflict system such as Intapp Open and an automated financial management system such as Elite; proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and internet research related to corporate family relationships (Dun & Bradstreet and CapIQ, for instance).

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others to resolve difficult conflict issues; ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines and daily requirements; and ability to analyze and interpret information from a variety of sources, apply critical and creative thinking, and pay strong attention to detail, to draw valid conclusions or develop solutions to complex problems.
