The below job summary and responsibilities reflects the duties of Assistant General Counsel. The Principal Attorney will differ as fewer skills and/or experience will be required. The successful candidate will be placed at a level that is commensurate with the candidate's skills and experience. Position SummaryProvides legal counsel to Xcel Energy and management of Xcel Energy legal services, including outside counsel. Handles complex legal matters on a regular basis, oftentimes requiring creative solutions to challenging legal issues. Viewed as an expert within the company and legal community in designated practice area.
Essential ResponsibilitiesProvides leadership and counsel to Xcel Energy management on complex legal, business, legislation, regulation and strategic matters.
Prepares contracts, pleadings, briefs and other documents for business transactions or legal proceedings.
Represents Xcel Energy in courts, regulatory agencies and other adjudicatory or adversarial proceedings.
May serve in a lead role to provide overall practice expertise and direction of attorneys within area of expertise. May act as primary point of contact for business areas.
Juris Doctorate degree from ABA accredited law school.
Licensed to practice, or able to be licensed to practice on reciprocity within a reasonable timeframe of accepting the position, where the position is located.
10+ years of practice in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or equivalent legal experience.
Leadership experience required.

Excellent Verbal & Written Communication Skills
Licensed to practice law in Texas
