About UsThe Travis County Attorney's focus is to prosecute cases equitably and fairly while keeping our communities safe. Our clerks can work alongside experienced legal professionals and gain exposure to various aspects of the legal process. Clerkships are offered within the divisions of Trial Court, Behavioral Health, Family Violence, and Protective Orders.
Duties And ResponsibilitiesClerkship Details:
- During your clerkship, you will engage in a range of hands-on activities that will enrich your understanding of the legal system and develop your legal skills. Here’s what you can expect:
- Legal Research:
Strengthen your legal research skills by researching and studying a variety of resources and legal documents to support cases or issues under consideration. - Drafting Documents:
Draft briefs, motions, orders, subpoenas, and other essential legal documents, as well as correspondence and reports. - Discovery Assistance:
Assist with discovery requests and represent the State at the docket. - Trial Preparation:
Aid in preparing cases for trial and other contested settings. Learn how to collect, organize, and prepare evidence and materials to present a compelling case. - Litigation Opportunities:
For those possessing a State Bar of Texas Supervised Practice Card, there is the exciting possibility of participating in litigation, further building your confidence and expertise. - Increase Awareness:
Increase your awareness and exposure to the systemic issues that impact our criminal justice system.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree AND completion of one (1) year of law school.
Required:

Physical requirements include the ability to occasionally lift/carry up to 25 pounds, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment. Subject to standing, walking, sitting, repetitive motion, reaching, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, balancing, client/customer contact, squatting to perform the essential functions. Subject to occasional dust, extreme temperatures/weather change, extreme heat, extreme cold, humidity, and outside elements.
Travis County employees play an important role in business continuity. As such, employees can be assigned to business continuity efforts outside of normal job functions.

Part-time, maximum of 30 hours.
