IT QA Tester / Automation, Systems Analyst
Position
Hybrid / Local TX Govt Automation Tester (12+) – 4‑month contract in Austin, TX.
Location:
Austin, TX (HHHSC). 2 days remote; 3 days onsite (Mon, Wed, Fri). Only local candidates considered.
- Writing and executing test cases; creating test plans
- Software usability concepts and requirements traceability; knowledge of SDLC
- Xray test case management tool and Jira project management tool
- Strong SQL query knowledge (CRUD)
- Test automation using UFT
- API testing and automation with Postman, SOAPUI, JMeter, or similar
8+ years of experience. Independently plans and accomplishes goals, works creatively and with latitude. QA automation engineers design automated tests by scripting functions that run automatically. They determine priority for test scenarios, create execution plans, and document automated processes.
QA Automation Analyst 3 will develop and maintain test scripts for manual and automated testing, prepare UAT test cases, align them with business requirements, conduct walkthroughs with stakeholders, track test case execution, and provide reporting. Defects are logged and tracked in Jira, and requirements traceability matrices are maintained. Experience in Agile, supporting development in dev, test, and UAT environments, and troubleshooting defects is required.

- Knowledge of Xray test case management tool
- Experience with a Scrum team in an Agile environment delivering releases for HHSC on time with quality focus in Jira
- Proficient defect tracking and management using Jira; systematic logging, categorization, and prioritization of defects
- SQL query writing for CRUD operations
- API testing with Postman or similar
- Automated test case development to verify authentication, user permissions, and roles
- Experience with unit, integration, regression, smoke, user acceptance, system, stress, and performance testing
- Knowledge of code coverage tools, process or systems analysis, and design work
- QA automation and scripting with UFT
- Ability to organize and present complex technical information orally and in writing
- Can work independently and with sprint development team members
- Able to work under pressure and tight time constraints
- Self‑driven, helping team achieve project milestones
- Strong communication skills with varied staff levels and end users
- Ability to respond to inquiries about errors or problems; handle multiple projects
- Accurate time tracking and estimation of changes or enhancements
- Knowledge of object‑oriented programming preferred
- Experience using accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies to ensure WCAG 2.1 AA compliance
- Experience working with the State of Texas HHS agency and systems preferred
This position requires a strong focus on test planning, execution, and automation, with an emphasis on usability, traceability, and quality across manual and automated test suites.
