Junior Lab Technician

Location: Austin, TX (Onsite; some weekend work available)

Pay Rate: $24.00 – $31.50 per hour

Contract Duration: 6-month initial contract

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Junior Lab Technician to support lab operations, hardware testing, and validation activities. This role involves hands‑on work with PC hardware, motherboard assemblies, lab equipment, and coordination with global validation teams. The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting skills, lab experience, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced onsite environment.

• AS or BS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Technology, or equivalent technical training with 3–5 years of relevant experience
• Strong background in computer hardware, software, and PC architecture
• Ability to debug boards, perform moderate soldering
  , and set up testing environments
• Working knowledge of Windows operating systems
  ;
  Linux experience is a plus
• Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  ; must be clear and concise in emails and documentation

• Assemble and perform functional testing on newly designed and incoming boards, including:
• Installing sockets, processors, heat sinks, HDDs
• Performing boot tests to verify functionality
• Track test status of hardware and deliver tested systems to local end users
• Coordinate global shipping and inventory logistics for boards, hardware, and ASICs
• Use protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers
  , and other tools to diagnose and resolve first‑level hardware issues
• Support system setup and infrastructure for silicon validation programs, including:
• Imaging HDDs with Windows or Linux
• Collecting hardware and software for validation teams
• Perform or coordinate lab equipment maintenance, including:
• Thermal heads, chillers, and calibration of scopes/analyzers
• Coordinate motherboard rework and ASIC direct‑mount activities:
• Interface with external vendors
• Create support tickets, manage schedules, and provide status updates
• Distribute completed reworks to requestors
• Execute pass/fail testing as bandwidth allows
• Support ordering and inventory control through the Semi‑Custom Purchasing Request (SPR) system
• Perform additional lab‑related projects and assignments as required

• Strong PC hardware and software troubleshooting skills
• Experience with motherboard architecture and computer system assembly
• Basic understanding of GDDR or LPDDR memory subsystems
• Working knowledge of PC architecture to troubleshoot hardware compatibility issues
• Experience installing Windows and Linux OS, drivers, and flashing BIOS
• Ability to interpret schematics and locate voltage rails, signals, and components
• Hands‑on experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and software tools for board debugging
• Bus signal integrity testing experience is a plus
• Experience with thermal heads, chillers, or thermal chambers is highly preferred
• Familiarity with Allegro, Agile, or inventory control systems is a strong plus
