Overview

Must reside within one (1) hour driving distance from the assigned duty station (DPS Headquarters).

Required to work a minimum of one (1) day per week onsite (DPS Headquarters). May change based on the needs of the div/agency.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Performs highly-complex to advanced (senior-level) administrative and supervisory business continuity, planning, and research work relating to the Texas Department of Public Safety's Continuity of Operations Unit. Work involves establishing program goals and objectives; developing guidelines, procedures, policies, rules, and regulations; coordinating and evaluating program activities. May plan, assign, and supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the coordination and direction for all agency technical continuity and recovery processes to include updating of technical continuity plans, conducting technical continuity projects and initiatives.
  • Provides technical support in the development of the associated plans, policies, procedures and reports for the agency approach to technical continuity and disaster recovery activities, to include reviewing and evaluating program materials.
  • Coordinate agency-wide implementation and testing of technical continuity and disaster recovery plans that includes conducting continuity and preparedness related training.
  • Coordinate with IT support teams, Disaster Recovery (DR) and continuity support vendors in the planning, support and execution of the DPS Disaster Recovery exercise and test program.
  • Coordinate the design, execution and continuous improvement of the continuity program within the IT divisions.
  • May serve as a liaison to DPS business units and IT teams for DR and technical continuity support activities.
  • Facilitate development, training, testing and evaluation of disaster recovery and technical continuity processes.
  • Participate in assessing the impact of a potential disruption in services, including incident management and activating appropriate technical continuity and recovery plans.
  • May serve as the agency’s point of contact on preparedness and technical continuity issues including activities related to disaster management when incidents occur resulting in an interruption in services.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the After-Action Reviews (AAR) for exercises, tests, activations or incidents to ensure the action items or processes are tracked to closure. Including developing supporting documentation.
  • Support the security standards and requirements of the agency and assess continuity integration for agency’s contracts.
  • Recommend standards and guidelines to reduce risk to the agency.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness and continuity efforts with internal and external entities to assure cohesiveness and consistency with strategic direction of other organizations and work groups.
  • May participate or serve in a role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response, recovery or continuity operations.
  • Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
