The Role- Lead the Enterprise and Mega Data centre Team within the Centre of Excellence group, as part of Field Application Engineering.
- Manage a team that works with customers and partners in support of RFP-driven requests. Provide hands-on support to enable workloads to run on AMD Instinct GPUs. Deliver workshops and training.
- Conduct engineering investigations to understand performance across workloads and understand competitive positioning. Create technical documentation of AI performance on AMD hardware to support the Field Application team, partners, and customers.
You will be steering a team of senior FAE specialists working with major customers in Silicon Valley and Enterprise. The role requires prior management of direct reports in an engineering team. Reporting to Senior Director level, you will ensure strong account qualification and capture risks to be managed through your internal AMD network. The role is based in North America and may require travel to customers and conferences nationally and internationally.
The Person- Established track record as a technical manager
- Understands performance impact for customers at systems, middleware and software levels
- Strong capability to manage customers and overcome challenges
- Positive, proactive attitude; able to lead others in the wider FAE team and anticipate future requests
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with crisp reporting
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 10-20% over a year
- Support winning new business. Influence customer qualification and Proof of Concept definition through your team. Support AMD partners in pursuit of wins
- Collaborate with business owners up to VP level on your team’s accounts. Build an engineering network within AMD to resolve issues
- Own the accounts. Monitor progress on accounts within your team, understand strengths, weaknesses, and key issues. Provide weekly readouts to the business
- Ensure your team performs Proof of Concepts and documents work through whitepapers and blogs; meet sales and POC targets
- Proactively engage across AMD teams (GPU/CPU/Network BUs, Engineering, Architecture, Platform, Software, Product Development) providing field feedback and leadership
- Assist in creating Total Cost of Ownership models to aid pricing with the bid desk
- Address problems proactively and assist colleagues and other teams
- Managed a technical team of engineers
- Strong technical program management, managing accounts and reporting upwards
- Presales experience, solution architecture
- Hands-on technical engineering background
- Experience with Cloud Service Providers (e.g., Azure, AWS, Oracle)
- Experience with system and application performance characterization, AI on CPU/GPU, databases, Spark, network performance, Kubernetes, virtualization, and tooling (e.g., AMD uProf/Intel vtune)
- Understanding of system-level hardware design and its impact on performance
- Customer-facing experience and strong presentation skills
- Experience leading a team with an expanding funnel of wins
- Experience with Nvidia GPUs and CUDA
- Hands-on AI experience in automotive, finance, enterprise, or defense
- Programming experience with HIP, CUDA, Python, C/C++, Fortran, OpenACC, OpenMP, pSTL
- Government level security clearance
- Bachelors Degree in a technical field (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics) preferred
Austin, Texas. Preference for Eastern and Central time zones, with West Coast possible.
