Purpose

Responsible for design, implementation and maintenance of central IT infrastructure and applications, including bulk retrieval (mirroring) and reverse proxying of external software, packages and other components required for our research staff to perform their deliverable project work.

Responsibilities
  • Ongoing routine technical maintenance (systems/applications).
  • Direct end‑user support.
  • Supply chain validation, capacity planning, upgrades, forecasting.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
  • Weekly activity report.
Required Qualifications
  • HS/GED and five years of related experience.
  • At least three years demonstrated experience with Linux‑based server operating systems (Red Hat, Ubuntu or Debian) and systems automation (Puppet, Salt, Ansible, Chef, CFEngine or general scripting).
  • Candidate must obtain a DoD 8570.1/8140 IAT Level II Certification (e.g., CompTIA CySA+ or Security+) within six months of hire.
  • Familiarity with mirroring or proxying access to externally‑hosted software.
  • Familiarity with NGINX or Apache.
  • Familiarity with reverse proxying/load‑balancing technology.
  • Relevant education and experience may substitute as appropriate.

Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, be willing to work with new technologies, highly organized, and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks. The position requires attention to detail, effective problem‑solving skills, excellent judgment, the ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision, and communicate effectively with all client groups.

Able to work under pressure, accept supervision, and maintain regular, punctual attendance.

US Citizen. Applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the appropriate level for the project.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering. Five years of direct experience administering enterprise Linux AND Windows Server infrastructure.
  • Python, shell (Bash), Perl, Power Shell scripting experience.
  • Eligibility for immediate access to classified information.

Salary Range

$80,000‑$118,000+ (negotiable) depending on qualifications.

  • Standard office conditions.
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation; requires manual dexterity; some weekend, evening and holiday work.
  • Possible interstate/intrastate travel.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
