Senior Program Manager, Experience, Innovation & Technology
Join the University of Texas at Austin’s Dell Medical School as a Senior Program Manager to lead a critical workstream within a major hospital construction initiative. The role translates innovative concepts into actionable strategies that integrate smart technology, digital systems, research, and human‑centered design into a next‑generation academic medical center. The Program Manager drives execution across design, construction, IT, and clinical operations, reporting to senior leadership.
Responsibilities- Translate visionary roadmaps into executable project plans across design, construction, IT, operations, and patient experience.
- Define scope, milestones, and deliverables for innovation work streams and align them with institutional goals and regulatory requirements.
- Establish governance structures, accountability frameworks, and track progress, adjusting plans as needed.
- Lead conceptualization and integration of smart rooms, embedded research, robotics, and hybrid care models.
- Identify emerging technologies and evaluate their application in the hospital environment.
- Develop strategies for digital navigation, command centers, and automated workflows, ensuring innovation is embedded from design through activation.
- Collaborate with the CTO, clinical leaders, facilities, and external vendors; facilitate cross‑functional work groups and decision‑making forums.
- Build consensus, resolve conflicts, and maintain momentum through clear communication and shared goals.
- Lead financial modeling for innovation components, integrating analysis into program budgeting and resource planning, and communicating implications to executive leadership.
- Advocate for environments that prioritize patient, provider, and learner experience, applying human‑centered design principles to space and technology planning.
- Make informed decisions amid ambiguity, encouraging experimentation and iterative development, and providing stability during uncertainty.
- Participate in academic and industry forums on healthcare innovation, support grant writing, conduct post‑occupancy evaluations, and contribute to institutional strategic planning.
- Strategic agility: frame long‑term innovation strategies, anticipate technology shifts, and align short‑term actions with long‑term vision.
- Innovation management: encourage experimentation, select and scale high‑impact innovations, and balance novelty with feasibility.
- Dealing with ambiguity: lead confidently amid uncertainty, make timely decisions with incomplete data, and adjust plans dynamically.
- Technical learning: quickly understand emerging technologies, translate concepts for diverse audiences, and apply new knowledge to solve problems.
- Building effective teams: build trust across disciplines, encourage shared ownership, and resolve conflicts constructively.
- Customer focus: design with patients and providers in mind, gather and integrate user feedback, and advocate for experience‑driven solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Engineering, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
- 7+ years leading complex, large‑scale, innovative projects in healthcare, technology, or related industries.
- Demonstrated success managing multidisciplinary innovation initiatives with significant stakeholder coordination.
- Technologically savvy with a lifelong‑learner mindset and the ability to quickly understand new and emerging systems.
- Strong communication skills and technical fluency across engineering, clinical, operational, and executive stakeholders.
- Familiarity with hospital technologies such as Epic, RTLS, AV systems, and building automation (deep specialization not required).
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
- PMP certification or equivalent.
- Master’s degree in Healthcare IT, Engineering, Architecture, or Business.
- Experience with advanced technologies including robotics, biomedical systems, digital experience platforms, and intelligent infrastructure.
