Human Resources Specialist II

BRIEF

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs routine (journey-level) human resources management work for the Texas Military Department (TMD) with an emphasis on staffing and classification. Ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Reports to the Human Resources Manager. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in recruiting, screening, and interviewing applicants; evaluating their qualifications; and referring qualified applicants to the appropriate hiring manager.
  • Provide advice and counsel and answer mainly routine questions from employees and managers on human resources policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with hiring supervisors, management and administrative support staff to draft and develop job postings, including job descriptions, minimum and preferred qualifications and physical/working conditions.
  • Ensure positions are properly classified under the State of Texas Classification plan and assigns Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) designations as necessary.
  • Prepare, revise, approve and/or make appropriate recommendations on job postings, screening criteria and interview questions.
