Texas Neuro Rehab Center is currently accepting applications for an Occupational Therapist (OT) on the Behavioral Unit

An OT provides occupational therapy services to patients in an efficient and professional manner and therapeutically facilitates purposeful occupational role performances of patients in order to improve both physical and mental functioning abilities.
About the FacilityTexas Neuro Rehab Center is a specialized treatment facility located ten minutes from downtown Austin on 67 wooded acres. Originally a cattle ranch, the land was purchased in 1943 as part of The Brown Schools and has operated as a medical rehabilitation and behavioral healthcare facility for over 80 years. Today the center provides complex medical and brain and spinal cord injury rehab for ages 13 years and older and neuropsychiatric treatment for youth, offering integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents, and adults facing difficult challenges.

- Skills, knowledge, and abilities: Thorough knowledge of human development, human anatomy & physiology, kinesiology, and the effect of treatment procedures on body functions, structure, and occupation. Knowledge of neurodevelopment treatment and motor control, understanding of neurological dysfunction and its effect on motor performance, knowledge of traumatic brain injury, cerebrovascular accidents, neuropsychological and physical disability evaluations, and ability to conduct appropriate occupational therapy interventions.
Understanding of sensory processing and sensory‑motor disorders, and experience with neuropsychiatric disorders such as PDD/Autism, mental retardation, ADHD, ODD, and bipolar disorder. - Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Licensure/Certification: Current driver’s license or state‑issued ; current license from the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners (LOT); preferred national board certification (OTR).
- Experience: One‑year experience in a neurorehabilitation setting.
- Physical/general requirements: Able to sustain activity eight hours a day, remain on feet eight hours per day, confront dangerous or aggressive patients, de‑escalate crisis situations, restrain patients per facility policy, frequently lift or carry up to 50 pounds, kneel, stoop, bend, and pull various weights, push patients in wheelchairs up and down hills, pursue running patients, traverse hospital grounds, transfer patients to and from wheelchairs, observe patient behavior and document it, display good written communication skills, use hands repetitively with fine motor skills, attend regularly, and have sufficient hearing and vision.
